Cotton Manor Ward Relief Society: Service Opportunity

"Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing” (see D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we can care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others.

"We encourage members world-wide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings.

"We ask that you be wise as you store food and water and build your savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage all at once. With careful planning, you can, over time, establish a home storage supply and a financial reserve."

Service Opportunity

We have an opportunity to help those in need. As a Relief Society Presidency we have compiled a list of some items which could be donated to bless the lives of others. If you are interested in helping, please contact us. Thank you!

1. Babys needs (diapers)
2. Pots and pans
3. Items necessary for preparing food (knives, can opener)
4. Cleaning supplies
5. Laundry supplies
6. Napkins
7. Children's games, toys, books
8. Bath towels
9. Sheets (twin)
10. Backpacks, school supplies
11. Gently used clothing, shoes and cleats

Sister Stevenson gave a beautiful lesson from the May 2009 Ensign by Elder David R. Bednar entitled "Honorably Hold a Name and Standing". She reminded us that we need to watch over each other as Relief Society sisters and not to leave anyone out in the storm of life. We need to "gather" one another and make it back to the house of the Lord so we can all receive the blessings of the temple and thereby gain eternal life. Please read this article in the May 2009 ensign if you have not done so already. Elder Bednar talks about what it was that kept the pioneers going through their unimaginable hardships as they sought shelter in camps along the Mississippi River. It was the fire of the temple covenant that burned in their hearts. it was their commitment to worship and honorably hold a name and standing in the house of the Lord. Elder Bednar says if you have not been able to make it to the temple, for whatever reason, to please cast away the things in your life that stand in the way and to seek after the things that are of eternal consequence.
